"Beauty and the Beast"
Synopsis

ALL STUDENTS WHO REGISTER BY THE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22ND DEADLINE ARE GUARANTEED A PART IN THE SHOW!

This beloved fairy tale, dramatized by Vera Morris (“Puss In Boots” & “Pocahontas” author), is filled with silly characters, fanciful costumes, a slapstick fight scene and important lessons about tolerance and redemption. The story opens with a selfish Prince entertaining royal princesses and his friend the Captain and refusing to give shelter to a beggar woman who is actually an enchantress in disguise. To teach the Prince a lesson, the enchantress turns him into a hideous Beast doomed to live in his castle where time will stand still for its occupants. Many years later, Mme. Rondeau gets lost in the bewitched forest that surrounds the Beast’s castle on her way to meet her husband’s ship after a journey. A hungry wolf chases Mme. Rondeau to the Beast’s front door where she seeks refuge from the cold night. The Beast agrees to let her spend one night as his guest and enjoy the hospitality of his servants who have now turned into household objects. Mme. Rondeau explores the castle and finds a beautiful rose and is tricked into taking it by Rose Legend. The Beast plans to put her to death for her crime. Mme. Rondeau begs his mercy for the sake of her three daughters, Marguerite, Isabel and Beauty. The Magic Looking Glass shows the Beast the Rondeau farm and he allows Mme. Rondeau one last visit home to say good-bye. Once home, Mme. Rondeau recounts her adventure to her family and her sons-in-law, Greedo and Graspo, think she has lost her mind. Beauty, the youngest daughter, believes her mother’s tale and sets off for the Beast’s castle to trade her freedom for her mother's. The Beast accepts the bargain on the provision that Beauty never leaves the castle. Over time, Beauty’s kindness and warmth melt the Beast’s selfish heart and break the enchantment, returning the castle and its inhabitants back to their original splendor. After opening night of the show, there will be a gala 10th Anniversary Afterglow (location to be announced).
